INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH
The University of Utah Athletics Department considers athletics to be an integral part of the University environment and therefore seeks to complement and support the overall mission of the University. The Athletics Department achieves this mission by providing the means, direction, and motivation necessary to assist skilled student-athletes to reach their fullest potential academically, athletically, emotionally, and socially and to ultimately be successful contributors to society. As a vital component of the campus community, the Athletics Department enhances the University’s image by fielding nationally competitive teams that will bring a sense of pride and recognition to the University and the State of Utah. The Department is committed to a program of excellence by providing the means and opportunities for student-athletes to compete at the highest level of competition. The Athletics Department supports the University's objective of creating a community enriched by men and women of diverse backgrounds. It does so by efforts to attract and retain a staff where women and ethnic minorities are well-represented. In addition, the athletics program offers opportunities for participation and provides support for student-athletes without regard to gender, race, national and/or ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, or disability. Academic success, a strict adherence to NCAA and MWC rules, loyalty, honesty, fiscal soundness, enthusiasm, and establishing an environment that promotes fair play are critical to the successful performance of the Department’s mission. |
